Whitsun field trip of TEER
From 30 May to 2 June 2023, 12 research assistants and 12 students went on this year's TEER Whitsun excursion. The field trip led to various thermal industrial plants with a focus on the field of waste utilization in Germany and the Netherlands.
In total, six different plants were visited. The experts on site provided the participants with detailed insights into the functioning of the various processes. There were also plenty of opportunities to ask questions and exchange ideas with the experts. Special highlights included a visit to the first waste incineration plant with CO2 capture in Duiven [NL] and a tour of the VERA sewage sludge incineration plant in Hamburg.
In addition, the EGK waste and sewage sludge incineration plant and biogas treatment plant in Krefeld was visited. At Thyssenkrupp in Duisburg there were insights into the coking plant and in Farmsum/ Delfzijl [NL], there was a look at ESD-SIC, which is according to the company, one of the largest silicon carbide (SiC) factories in the world. Finally, at swb Entsorgung in Bremen, the participants were able to gain further impressions of the medium calorific power plant for waste utilization.
The aim of the excursion was to give the students an insight into various methods and technologies for waste and sewage sludge utilization, focusing on thermal processes.
The field trip was a great success and will certainly be remembered by the students for a long time. We would like to thank all participants and look forward to the next field trip.
