New project on toxicity of carbon fibres at TEER

On 01.01.2019, the project CFC - CarbonFibreCycle started at TEER. The Project is coordinated by Karlsruhe Research Centre (KIT) with the Institutes of Technical Chemistry (ITC), Toxicology and Genetics (ITG) and Applied Biosciences (IAB). In the project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the release behaviour and toxicity during thermal and mechanical treatment of carbon fibres are investigated at TEER together with the partners Vitrocell Systems GmbH, Palas GmbH and the Institut für Verbundwerkstoffe GmbH (IVW).

TEER analyses the material flows of CF/CFRP beginning from production and describes the recycling routes. In a detailed analysis of the process chains up to EOL, release scenarios for respirable CF fractions are then determined.
