8th BioSC Forum 2022

On May 11th, the eighth BioSC Forum took place in Düsseldorf. The BioSC (Bioeconomy Science Center) is a competence center for bioeconomy in North Rhine-Westphalia, which consists of the Research Center Jülich and the Universities of Bonn, Düsseldorf and the RWTH Aachen. The aim of this competence center is the development of solutions for a sustainable bioeconomy by bringing together a wide variety of research expertise, disciplines, and concepts. The annual BioSC Forum serves as an internal discussion platform for BioSC members.

Last Wednesday, the forum started with short presentations about ongoing and new internal projects. One of these presentations introduced the new research project NewBIAS, which will start on July 1st and was presented by its project coordinator Nina Siebers from the Research Center Jülich (IBG-3). The project scope is to determine the multifunctional use of biochars for nutrient recovery from manure and soil amelioration with a cascade-use of biochar feedstocks from horticulture. One of the project partners is TEER, where the biochar production will be conducted. The internal project manager is our research assistant Alexandra Brautlacht. After the project presentations, a poster lunch took place at which Ms. Siebers and Ms. Brautlacht presented a poster for their new project NewBIAS.
