On Saturday, September 17, RWE AG opened its gates for the summer festival to neighbors as well as for former and current employees and their families at the three sites Niederaußem, Hambach and Frechen. In addition to plenty of food and drinks, visitors could look forward to many entertaining games, stands and attractions.

In addition, the Frechen site bid farewell to the briquetting plant, which will be shut down at the end of this year as part of the statutory coal phase-out. The briquetting plant was commissioned in 1902 and will refine brown coal into briquettes until the end of 2022. The visitors on the Wachtberg in Frechen could also tour the briquette factory. TEER was also represented at the festival with its own stand, where it presented its activities at the institute, like the intended biochar laboratory. There were also speeches by Christian Forkel (Managing Director of RWE), Susanne Stupp (Mayor of Frechen) and Dr. Lars Kulik (RWE Power AG Executive Board). Finally, the successful evening was concluded in a cozy atmosphere.
